What will the world be like in 2050?

Justin Friedman

In this intriguing talk, Justin Friedman challenges the TEDxJohannesburg audience to imagine what world they want to live in, in 2050. Will the planet be enough for us all? Will we embrace the interconnectedness of life? Will democracy survive? Will it thrive? How will we power the planet? In what ways will technology disrupt life? Where will designers draw inspiration from? And how will the built environment have changed? Will we continue to pollute? What will our food be like? How will we grow it, if at all? And how will we use the land? Will ubuntu make the world a better place? What shape will the economy take? What actions will we take to make this world real?

For over 20 years Justin Friedman has been working in the environmental and wellbeing sectors across the UK, Europe, Asia, the USA and South Africa. He founded FLOW (For Love Of Water) in SA which has linked Government, Corporate, Media and Civil society through media, design, events, product and POS Innovation in order to create lasting behaviour change. He also helped to create Water Access and Awareness at the 2010 World Cup and co-hosted UN-Habitat and UN-Water. He recently developed a Water Offset tool that facilitates users being able to offset their water usage to projects that save water, create jobs and provide water services to communities.
