Longing for the light, thanking my ancestors

Ntsikwane Raphesu

Ntsikwane performs two songs, both in her native Sepedi: “Lesedi”, meaning light, and “Badimo”, meaning ancestors. She wrote “Lesedi” during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown to encourage herself to keep the faith and know that there is light coming, despite the darkness. Her second song, “Badimo”, enjoys a special place in her heart. She wrote it as a tribute to her grandparents and great-grandparents, for the way that they raised her own parents to raise her.

Hailing from Polokwane, South Africa, Ntsikwane's sound is a mix of afro-folk soul and soft rock, with lyrics that explore how one can best navigate the peaks and valleys of the human experience.
